About This Spot

Stepping into China Palace Restaurant feels like a gentle pause from the hustle of everyday life—a humble nook where the scent of garlic and ginger greets you like an old friend. This is a place where time seems to slow down just enough to savor familiarity: a no-frills, unpretentious local spot that wears its earnest charm on its sleeve. The atmosphere is quiet and straightforward, with a steady, welcoming rhythm that hints more at comfort than flash.

Behind the modest counter, a tried-and-true menu quietly carries the weight of tradition. Here, classic flavors come through with an honest, straightforward warmth, from softly spiced wontons folded just right to fresh, garlicky vegetables that feel like a small celebration of everyday ingredients. Portions are generous, reflecting the restaurant’s unspoken promise of value without fuss. Whether you’re popping in to grab something quick or easing into a familiar meal after a busy day, the experience feels reassuringly close to home.

Many who visit the restaurant appreciate its steadfast commitment to authenticity—this isn’t about trendiness or upscale ambiance, but about delivering steady, heartfelt Chinese cooking that keeps people coming back. The place holds onto a certain 90s charm that some might call nostalgic, a reminder of simpler times when a reliable meal was the real star.

While the space itself leans more toward practicality, the friendliness behind the counter and the dependable pace of service create an approachable, warm environment. For those seeking a moment of calm and a genuinely satisfying meal without the trimmings, China Palace quietly delivers a slice of comfort and connection in the heart of Calhoun.

Love this place. We only eat Chinese here. It gives off that authentic 90s Chinese spot vibe, you know? If you want aesthetic, go somewhere else. If you want good food, this is it.

personally one of the best chinese places my family and I have ever had, we’ve ordered to go here for years, and it’s so nice they open on holidays! nothing like being able to order some chinese and go home and relax

Okay so I knocked down their score on the atmosphere because this is a takeaway place and I still have all the lexan guards up across the front counter where you have to order through a slide hole and pay through a slide hole all the way back to the pandemic. They've never removed it, but that's their position and it doesn't really affect. It's just aesthetically poor I ordered hot and sour soup to go and instead of having a cauldron of soup and then just throwing it in the container to go. Since you can see the kitchen I witnessed them taking out tofu slicing it up, taking out mushrooms, slicing them out, taking out other items, lemongrass etc. Then starting in the wok with some broth I could see them crack of fresh egg. Use all the fresh ingredients and make my soup to order. You don't get that in Chinese restaurants normally. No matter how much you're spending, I applaud them on making the soup to order. And because of it the soup is fantastic.

The food is so addictive!! I cannot stop going here. Proud to support local places. They often speak in their native language to each other and are loud, which may be intimidating to some, but they are friendly! 11 dollars gets you so much food, you'll have leftovers the next day. Totally worth going here.
